Hydrotherapy has been around for hundreds of years and uses the body’s reaction to hot and cold stimuli in order to help stimulate the immune system, influence the production of stress hormones, improve circulation and digestion, encourage blood flow and lessen the body’s sensitivity to pain.

.

“Warming socks” is an easy hydrotherapy treatment you can do at bedtime right in the comfort of your home.  All you need is a pair of cotton socks, a pair of 100% wool socks, a bath tub, a freezer and a bed (all things that are easily accessible at home).  Here are the steps:

.

  1. Run a warm bath (feel free to add epsom salts and essential oils)
  2. While, the tub is filling, run 1 pair of cotton socks under ice cold water and place them in your freezer (yes, that is right…your freezer!)
  3. Soak in the warm bath for about 15 to 20min to raise your body temperature (you can further increase your body temperature by drinking a warm cup of chamomile tea while you are in the bath)
  4. After having finished the bath, remove the socks from the freezer and put them on your warm feet (I know this may not be pleasant at first but, trust me, it is amazing at stimulating your immune system!)
  5. Cover these frozen socks with a pair of 100% wool socks and hop into bed
  6. Do not remove the socks until they are completely dry (this may take up to 6 hours).
